The Emmense peat zones have a turbulent, sometimes dramatic, but also a colorful past. In the Veenpark, near Barger-Compascuum, this time has (literally) been brought to life again.
In the village of turf huts you will discover how the peat diggers lived in the peat area.
Take a trip in the steam train, which takes you to the peat fields where the peat cutter peeks daily. The village train takes you past the bakery, wooden shoe factory and the school.
